threading timber blocks
every object begins with a moment
It was 8 pm, on a winter evening in Victoria.
The fireplace glows beside us. Around the tea table sit the three of us: James, me, and our daughter Duo — assembling a prototype for the Capsule Shelf, an extension of the Capsule Chair.
The warmth from the fire reflects on Duo's concentrated face as she carefully threads each piece together:
one piece of frayed fabric,
one timber block,
then another special timber block after every eleven pieces.
There is no rush, only repetition and the occasional conversation between us.
This is hj-duo enjoying each other's company, making with our hands, in one of the many moments before the object exists.
It is this focus, curiosity, and quiet joy of making that become embedded in the objects we create.
